One trend from this year’s catwalks which appears to be steadily making it’s way only to the high street is the peplum trend. This is an essential look for summer 2012, and one which is already proving to be extremely versatile. Here’s a quick guide as to how you can wear this look.
Perhaps the easiest way to wear the peplum style is with jeans. Peplum tops cinch you in at the waist and can be paired with skinny jeans for a look which is both classy and comfortable. This is ideal for a day spent shopping, and flat sandals can be easily swapped for heels for an effortless day-to-night transition. Choose peplum tops with pan collar detailing to make sure your look is right on trend this coming season.
Peplum dresses are also everywhere this year, and an excellent way to work this trend on a night out. This is also a more subtle way of wearing this trend – ideal if you don’t want to over-accentuate your hips. Rather than going for a full peplum flare, dresses can often have just had a half-peplum on the hips only. Team with a heel to create an hourglass shape which can be extremely flattering to any figure. If you find that your lower half appears out of proportion with the exaggeration of the peplum, then you may also want to think about pairing with a structured cropped jacket, which will balance out your frame.
Peplum is an exceptionally feminine trend, but if you’re keen to avoid looking too ‘girlie,’ then avoid pastel fabrics which are everywhere this season. Instead, opt for bold and eye-catching shades, and wear with a chunky belt and wedges to give your look more of an edge.
